Dave
Phelan
Nomination…
Dave
gives
so
much
of
his
time
to
the
children
of
Redditch,
he
is
a
lovely
young
man
who
really
cares
about
the
kids.
This
year
he
organised
a
World
Cup
estate
football
club.
He
ran
it
most
days
of
the
week
at
various
different
estates
and
only
charged
50p
per
child!
He
wanted
less
fortunate
kids
to
be
able
to
take
part.
Normally
football
clubs
like
this
can
cost
between
£3-£5
pounds
for
the
same
thing
but
Dave
offered
it
at
just
50p!
At
the
end
of
the
course
they
also
had
a
tournament
where
ail
the
estates
came
together.
Most
young
men
of
his
age
wouldn't
give
their
time
up
for
no
financial
gain
in
same
way
as
Dave.
Dave
is
a
credit
to
Redditch
and
an
inspiration
to
young
kids
in
the
town.

Redditch
Wheels
Project
(Redditch

Park

Steve
has
led
this
project
from
the
very
beginning,
it
has
inspired
so
many
young
people
and
drawn
national
press
attention
to
Redditch
.
The
Redditch
project
has
hosted
both
regional
and
national
competitions
and
in
addition
provided
countless
children
in
Redditch
the
opportunity
to
locally
to
take
up
these
sports
which
has
resulted
in
some
of
our
young
sports
people
travelling
to
international
destinations
to
take
park
in
World

events.

Charlotte
Shepard
(No
photograph

Nomination….
Charlotte
lost
her
mother
from
cancer
a
few
years
ago.
Her
mum
did
a
lot
of
work
in
the
community
and
since
she
passed,
Charlotte
has
taken
on
the
baton,
working
hard
to
support
and
raise
money
for
the
community.
She
has
raised
money
for
Redditch
Nightstop,
a
charity
to
help
the
homeless,
and
supports
the
Astwood
bank
carnival
committee.
Charlotte
is
an
inspiring
young
mother
and
I
want
her
to
be
recognised
for
her
selflessness
and
local
community
work.

Steve
Stone
In
2001
Steve
came
up
with
the
concept
of
'Payroll
Giving",
which
is
a
model
used
widely
in
the
USA.
The
idea
was
to
encourage
our
staff
at
McDonalds
to
donate
a
small
amount
on
each
pay-day,
which
would
be
deducted
pre-tax..
A
company
was
appointed
to
administer
the
scheme,
the
fees
for
this
organisation
being
paid
by
the
business
to
ensure
that
every
penny
donated
by
our
staff
goes
to
the
charity.
Steve
set
the
minimum
donation
at
£1
per
pay-day,
(approx.
80p
pre-tax)
and
selected
the
charity
as
the
“Ronald
McDonald
House"
in
Birmingham.
The
house
provides
free
accommodation
to
parents
of
sick
children
who
are
being
treated
in
the
Birmingham
Children's
hospital.
The
sign
up
has
been
excellent
and
with
around
80%
of
our
employees
involved
we
have
raised
over
£50,000
for
the
charity
since
the
inception
Steve
came
up
with
the
idea,
managed
the
scheme,
encouraged
our
staff
members
to
visit
the
house
to
see
how
the
money
is
spent
and
created
a
small
badge
for
the
staff
which
signifies
that
they
are
a
donator
through
the
scheme.
Steve
has
been
in
great
demand
with
other
Payroll
Giving
organisations,
and
has
presented
several
times
to
the
Chanties
Aid
foundation,
and
to
the
House
of
Commons
Select
Committee
Hearing
chaired
by
David
Blunkett.
Steve
continues
to
work
tirelessly
to
increase
the
number
of
fund
raising
activities
held
in
the
group
and
has
achieved
Platinum
Status
for
our
scheme
by
the
Charities
Aid
foundation.

September

from
the
Redditch

In
August
2014
there
was
an
arson
attack
on
3
Bungalows
in
Abbeydale.
Alfie,
a
4
year
old
Cavalier
King
Charles
Spaniel
raised
the
alarm
in
the
early
hours
of
the
morning
at
around
2am.
He
started
to
continually
bark
(something
he
does
not
normally
do)
waking
his
owner
Glynis
James
in
their
bungalow
in
Johnson
Close.
Sensing
something
was
wrong
Glynis
looked
out
of
the
window
and
saw
3
bungalows
on
fire.
The
emergency
services
were
called
and
thankfully
all
were
rescued
and
no
one
was
injured.
Alfie
was
the
true
hero
and
this
was
confirmed
by
those
that
were
rescued,
who
at
the
time
were
asleep
in
their
beds
when
the
bungalows
were
on
fire.
They
said
they
owe
their
lives
to
Alfie.
